Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are undoubtedly one of the world's most influential and most powerful celebrity couples—although as of February 19, 2021, their 6-year marriage is coming to an end. Kim Kardashian officially filed for divorce from her husband and is seeking joint custody of their four children.

But, despite calling it quits in 2021, their love story was quite eventful. From their envious Italian wedding to the birth of their four children, here is everything you need to know about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's relationship—including all the details on their impending divorce.

2003: Meeting On Set

Long before Kim was a reality television star, the California native met Kanye on the set of a Brandy music video. Kim recounted the moment during the Keeping Up With The Kardashians 10th-anniversary special in 2017, saying, “I met him, I think, in 2002 or 2003. He was recording a song with Brandy, and I was her friend. I vividly remember hanging out with him, and then they did a video together, so I’d see him a few times. He was asking his friends, ‘Who is this Kim Kardajan?’ He didn’t know what my name was.”

2008: The First Connection

While they did meet years earlier, their friendship didn't solidify until 2008 when they worked on a television pilot together. "We worked together on a pilot for a show called Alligator Boots back in 2008 and I played Princess Leia," wrote the Kim on her website, per Us Weekly. "We had met before this project (back in 2003), but I would say this is when we first really connected. These pics are SO funny!"

2010: Kanye's Keeping Up Debut

Kanye made his KUWTK debut during the premiere episode of Kourtney and Kim Take New York in 2010. He visited Kim and her sister Kourtney Kardashian's new store and Kim told the camera, "Kanye and I have been good friends for a long time. He's someone that we definitely respect his fashion taste and his style and so we wanted him to check out the store." Little did she know how much of an impact her future husband would have on her fashion style down the road!

August 20, 2011: A Different Marriage

On August 20, 2011, Kim married her then-fiancé Kris Humphries—and Kanye even bought a cellphone to try and stop the marriage. "I got a phone because somebody decided they wanted to marry Kris Humphries," Kanye recalled on Kocktails with Khloé. "I started sending her pictures of, like, certain basketball players that used to be cool that now they wear their pants all the way up to here. Like, 'This is your future.'"

October 2011: Reconnecting in Paris

But Kim's marriage to Humphries was short-lived, and the couple infamously called it quits just 72 days after saying "I do." The break-up prompted Kanye to invite Kim to his fashion show in Paris. "After my breakup, I was feeling really low and down and he said, ‘Just come to Paris and see my fashion show,'" shared Kim on the KUWTK anniversary special. "He jokes that he put on this whole fashion show just to get a date with me. So I went there and I stayed with him, and that’s where we started dating. I swear from the moment I landed, I fell madly in love with him and I thought, 'Oh my god, why didn’t I do this sooner?' Like, this is what real life is like—love and fun and real support."

April 17, 2012: A Love Song For Kim

Kanye publicly professed his love for Kim in the spring of 2012 when he released his song, "Cold." In the track, he references the reality television mogul with lyrics like "And I'll admit, I had fell in love with Kim/Around the same time she had fell in love with him/Well that's cool, baby girl, do ya thang/Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team." The last line was in reference to Kim's ex-husband who played for the Brooklyn Nets at the time, which was owned by rapper Jay Z.

December 30, 2012: They're Pregnant!

During a performance in Atlantic City, Kanye confirmed the couple was pregnant with their first child by referring to Kim as his "baby mama" on stage. "Stop the music and make noise for my baby mama," he shouted to the crowd.

May 6, 2013: Kim's First Met Gala

At eight months pregnant, Kim walked the Met Gala red carpet for the first time as Kanye's plus-one. She wore a high-neck floral Givenchy gown and became the subject of many memes. "I was crying, like, the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it. There were all these memes about me and this couch," she later recalled.

June 15, 2013: Introducing North West

The couple officially became parents on June 15, 2013, when their first daughter, North West, was born.

October 21, 2013: An Epic Engagement

In what might go down as one of the most memorable celebrity proposals in history, Kanye popped the question on Kim's 33rd birthday. He rented out the San Francisco Giants' baseball stadium, hired an orchestra and wrote "PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!" on the jumbotron. He proposed with an $8 million dollar cushion-cut diamond set on a diamond pavé band. Following the engagement, Kim was then surprised by her family and friends who witnessed the moment from the dugouts.

April 1, 2014: The Controversial Vogue Cover

In what was then a controversial move, Kim and Kanye landed the cover of Vogue's April 2014 issue. With Kim posing in a strapless bridal gown, the cover was published just one month before the pair would tie the knot.

May 24, 2014: A European Wedding Weekend

Kim and Kanye's wedding weekend began in Paris, where they had luncheon at Valentino's French chateau and a rehearsal dinner in Versailles. However, on the morning of their wedding, the couple flew their guests to Florence, Italy where they said "I do" at Fort di Belvedere. Florence was reportedly the destination where their daughter North was conceived, making it a sentimental spot to get married. Did we mention their entire nuptials cost an estimated $2.8 million? No wonder why we dubbed it one of the most influential weddings of the decade!

December 5, 2015: Their First Son Saint

A year-and-a-half after their wedding, Kim and Kanye welcomed their first son on December 5, 2015, and named him Saint West.

Fall 2016: A Tumultuous Time

In October 2016, Kim was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room during fashion week (the culprits stole millions of dollars worth of jewels, including her diamond engagement ring). Not long after, Kanye was hospitalized for exhaustion. During this tumultuous time, the couple took a break from public life to focus on their family.

December 25, 2017: The Ultimate Christmas Present

For their fourth Christmas as husband and wife, Kanye gifted Kim items from Adidas, Amazon, Apple, Disney and Netflix as well as stock for each company. The thoughtful present prompted Kim to call Kanye the "best husband ever" on Instagram.

January 15, 2018: A Daughter Via Surrogate

Kim and Kanye welcomed their third child via surrogate on January 15, 2018. They named the baby girl Chicago in honor of Kanye's hometown.

May 10, 2019: Welcoming Another Son

The couple used another surrogate for their fourth child and second son, Psalm, who was born on May 10, 2019.

January 5, 2021: A Rumored Divorce

Although the power couple didn't officially file for divorce, several sources confirmed that Kim and Kanye were ending their marriage after nearly seven years. Page Six was the first to break the news, which since took over the internet. "They are keeping it low-key but they are done. Kim has hired Laura Wasser and they are in settlement talks," a source told the publication, revealing that the couple was supposedly living separate lives in recent months. "She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile, Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy s–t, and she’s just had enough of it."

Winter 2021: Kim Kardashian's Wedding Band

After the alleged divorce news broke, the whereabouts of Kim Kardashian's wedding band came into question. Photos surfaced of Kim wearing the ring just the day before (Jan. 4) divorce news broke, however, in several of Kim's Instagram pics from the weeks leading up to the shocking news, the ring is MIA. Multiple news outlets speculate what disappearance and re-appearance of her wedding band could mean for her marriage with Kanye West.

February 19, 2021: Kim Files for Divorce

Kim and Kanye's six-year marriage is officially coming to an end. Kim filed for divorce from her husband on February 19, 2021. The legal action comes just a month after rumors circulated of an inevitable divorce and according to TMZ, Kim is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple's four children. The reality star has also supposedly had divorce lawyer Laura Wasser on retainer since the summer.

August 26, 2021: The Chicago Donda Listening Party

Kim has been the most supportive ex following her filing for divorce, attending all of Kanye's listening parties for his upcoming album Donda, including one held at Soldier Field in Chicago where she came on stage in a wedding dress. After Kanye lit himself on fire on the front porch of a recreated version of his childhood home, he was joined on stage by Kim, who wore a Balenciaga Couture wedding gown with a veil that covers her head and face completely, during the last song of the evening "No Child Left Behind."

Afterwards, the ex-couple walked off stage hand-in-hand. But no, sources told TMZ that the couple is not back together. Kim is just super supportive and was happy to be a part of the show. "Kim and Kanye have always supported the other's endeavors and will continue to do that in the future, whether it be a collaborative effort or not." 

March 2, 2022: Kim is Declared Legally Single

In December 2021, Kim asked to be declared legally single amid her divorce proceedings with Kanye. She said on court documents in February 23, "While I wish our marriage would have succeeded, I have come to the realization that there is no way to repair our marriage. Kanye does not agree but at least it appears that he has come to the realization that I want to end our marriage, even if he does not. I ask that the Court restore me to the status of a single person so that I can begin the healing process and so that our family can begin the healing process and move forward in this new chapter in our lives." On March 2, 2022, a judge granted her this legal status, according to People.
