Chevon Morgan, 31, married Aziz Jarju, 37, at Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds, on 5th October 2017. She says:
The most important thing to us as a couple was that we'd take the time to enjoy our wedding day. We like tradition but didn’t want anything too formal; we wanted the day to feel special but not stuffy; and we also wanted our guests to feel comfortable. We spent the first few months after our engagement trying to find the perfect venue for all of this – and then we found Cowley Manor! It has such a grand exterior and beautiful setting but the interiors are so quirky and modern.
It was great that they were also able to do all of our catering (except dessert, which we had big plans for) and every morsel was impeccably executed. The manor's wedding coordinator and chef catered to all our needs, including serving gluten-free options and halal meat.
Aziz had very strong views on what we should have as a wedding cake. The result was a four-tiered multi-flavoured masterpiece by Claire at Cake Daydreams, which was decorated with fresh dahlias and edible copper paint. The top tier was 'Treasure Island' (chocolate sponge soaked in rum syrup with Belgian chocolate ganache and chunky coconut buttercream), then we had a tier of 'London Fog' (vanilla sponge with a delicate blend of earl grey and lavender buttercream), next was 'Cookies & Cream' (vanilla and chocolate sponge marbled with chunky chocolate chips, and layered with crushed Oreo buttercream), and, finally, 'Citron' (lemon sponge smothered with home-made lemon curd and Sicilian lemon buttercream). It was DELICIOUS.
The deal was, if Aziz got to choose our cake, I'd get to curate a dessert table. We served 'Pink Lemonade' cake pops, French crullers, chocolate-covered Oreos and 'Hazelnut Dream' Cake Truffles, which were also baked by Claire. Then, for my vegan friends, I ordered some treats from Bake Meister online. The Italian Almond and Lemon Cookies went down a treat! We adorned the table with matching stationary, courtesy of the The Old Market Printing Company.
Though our wedding was in October, we had the most fantastic weather. It was so warm, you would have thought it was August! As the sun started to set and we headed out to take some final shots of day, however, it started to get a little chilly. I was pleased that I had bought a fluffy stole for the occasion. I didn’t wear it for very long but I’m glad I bought it, because I think it looked nicely seasonal in our photos.
We discovered Zibi, our photographer, at a wedding fair in 2015 and were really impressed with his diverse portfolio. He was such a joy to work with. He’d even taken the time to learn the names of guests, so addressed all the key members of our wedding party by name! We were thrilled with the final images.
It's crazy because we initially though that confetti was one of those unnecessary purchases but, at the last minute, found a great deal at Shropshire Petals. I’m so happy we changed our minds and spent that little extra. It’s such a fun memory and resulted in my favourite shot from the whole wedding album.
