Sophie Link, 32, married Andrew Rich, 32, at Calhoun Beach Club, Minneapolis, in the US, on 6 September 2013. She says:
I moved from London to Minneapolis as a child so we initially considered having the wedding in England. In the end we decided on an outdoor ceremony in America with an English country garden theme for the indoor reception.
I got all our American guests to wear hats and fascinators, which was a challenge but looked great on the day. The cocktail duel at the reception - UK (Pimm's) vs US (Bootlegs, made of gin, mint, lemonade and club soda) - was also a big hit. The UK won (of course!).
We didn't start with a specific colour palette - we just used shades we liked and found ways to put them together. The reds, purples and corals worked well.
I wanted a unique and colourful pair of shoes as a contrast to my dress. I went to Barneys in Chicago and my sister found the perfect pair on sale and in my size. That never happens!
Getting a wedding planner was one of our best investments. She managed the budget and timelines, and helped narrow down all the best vendors.
We didn't want a cake, but our parents were so keen on the tradition of cutting it that we went for a very simple white one.
My top tip: Get a photobooth with lots of fun props. The instant photos it gave also doubled up as an amazing guest book for us and favours for our guests.
