Fact: Catherine Deane is BHLDN's most successful bridal brand. According to her sales team, nine out of the top ten best-selling dresses on the gorgeous American e-retailer are Deane designs. Now, considering the standing of the Anthropologie-owned retailer that is quite a feat.
Her latest designs are aimed at the women who love that slinky, sparkly, pretty aesthetic and then some.
The Irish-born, South African-raised, Hong Kong-trained and now London-based designer employs traditional techniques and gives them a modern twist, making for seriously delightful dresses.
You won't find a single 'cupcake' dress amongst the lot, but why would you want that when you can have French silk tulle over Chantilly lace and a rich champagne lining for depth?
The beading itself is all hand-drawn and individually designed, a process which we can imagine is much more taxing than it sounds. There is nothing truly ground-breaking here, true, but it is all perfectly pretty. And that is the thing about Catherine's designs: they are never going to be 'cutting edge' - they are softly spoken dresses that are all too easy to fall in love with, that play on your mind long after you've seen them and live up to the sensuously demure reputation they have made for themselves. Deane makes women look and feel pretty, and that is her biggest and truest success.
