Das Central, Sölden, Austria
When you’re standing in das Central’s Ice Q restaurant, there’s likely to be a sharp intake of breath. Spin around in this glass box (right) suspended above the Austrian mountains and you’ll only ever be greeted with standing-on-the-edge-of-the-world views. The best bit? Spot the tiny freshwater lake below – it’s flawlessly heart-shaped with the bright blue sky reflected in the clear waters. This sort of perfection pretty much sums up what you can expect here. Host to the cast and crew of Spectre during filming, it’s definitely Bond-esque, with swish suites, sleek design touches, embedded tech and a groaning wine cellar. The skiing is top notch and in the summer, hiking, mountain-biking and climbing are all on offer. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll keep zipping back up to Ice Q, for a lunch of spring lamb or a dinner of marrow-encrusted beef, sloshed down with the hotel’s very own wine, Pino 3000. And the cherry on top? Spa-ing yourselves silly at the multi-level world of saunas, whirlpools and water beds. In fact, it’s almost as perfect as that heart-shaped lake...
Wow Factor: The journey to the restaurant is by cable car. Exclamations of wonder all the way.
