Your love story was written in the stars, but the moon might be in charge when it comes to your wedding plans. Maybe you already know what kind of bride or groom you’ll be based on your sun sign—this is the sign most of us are familiar with as this reflects the personality that you shine out to others. Your moon sign, however, is very important when comes to planning one of the most emotional days of your life.

What Is a Moon Sign?

Your moon sign is based on the position of the moon at your time of birth. The moon sign rules your inner world.

To learn more about harnessing the moon’s influence during your wedding planning process, we consulted modern-day shaman and lunar alignment expert Ashley Cramer to shed some light on how you can plan mindfully around your sign.

Meet the Expert

Ashley Cramer is a modern-day shaman and founder of Lunar Alignment—an app created to foster a sense of community, connection, and transformation in line with the phases of the moon.

According to Cramer, considering your moon signs as a couple can help make the planning process a smoother and more intimate experience. "Your moon sign helps you understand what you need to feel emotionally fulfilled and what you expect from others," she explains. "If you know your significant other’s moon sign, it gives you great insight into what they need from you in order to feel nurtured in your relationship."

Elements such as the venue, the size of the guest list, the finances, or the food and drinks can also be influenced by your connection with the moon. Each sign even has its own power color. How’s that for making your color scheme selection easy? "With guidance from your moon sign, you can add special touches to your wedding to make it feel even more special to you," says Cramer. "It can also save you hours of sifting through Pinterest trying to get ideas!"

Below, Cramer shares her celestial intel on how to plan your wedding based on your moon sign.

Water Signs

These are the most deeply emotional of all of the Zodiac signs, so water signs may want a more intimate affair. A wedding that includes lots of sentimental touches will be most fulfilling. That might include a location that’s meaningful to the couple (a venue in the town they met or somewhere they vacationed together), using family heirlooms as accessories, or table names that represent relationship milestones.

Cancer (June 22–July 22)

Cancer moons are the most sentimental of all the moon signs. A wedding day full of personal touches and classic romance will have Cancer moons at their happiest.

Wedding Power Color: Silver, or White and Gray

Scorpio (October 24–November 21)

Scorpio moons get emotional well-being from having close, loyal connections. An intimate gathering with lots of opportunity for conversations with each guest is a great fit.

Wedding Power Color: Black

Pisces (February 19–March 20)

A whimsical theme with dreamy florals or eclectic vintage décor is perfect for the dreamy and imaginative Pisces moon. And, a watery location—beach, lake, river or poolside—is best.

Wedding Power Color: Light Green or Aquamarine

Fire Signs

Fire signs have a bright, fun, and optimistic energy. These signs don’t take themselves too seriously and want everyone to have a good time. These are the signs that will want a big party with all of their friends and family, glamorous attire, wedding toasts that make the whole crowd laugh, and a flashy send-off at the end of the night. The bar may be a bigger priority for fire signs since they want everyone to have a good time: think signature cocktail or mixologist.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

Outgoing Aries moon loves to be the center of attention. Having a wedding logo or incorporating photos and personal memorabilia in the décor will make an Aries moon feel like the day is truly all about them.

Wedding Power Color: Red

Leo (July 23–August 22)

Vibrant Leo moons want to feel that they’re the life of the party. Wowing their guests with a surprise flash dance or an outfit change before the first dance will make them feel proud.

Wedding Power Color: Red or Orange

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)

Sagittarius is the traveler of the Zodiac, so a Sagittarius moon is the sign most likely to love a destination wedding somewhere exotic.

Wedding Power Color: Purple

Earth Signs

Down-to-earth and unpretentious, these signs are most stimulated through their senses. Since they are also associated with worldly success, indulgences such as a couture gown will speak to an Earth moon’s longing for high quality and details. These brides or grooms-to-be will likely opt for lots of earthy elements, traditional wedding vows, and a plated dinner with time to relax. Earth signs also tend to be more practical and detail-oriented when it comes to spending—they’re likely to be budget-savvy, even if the budget is big.

Taurus (April 20–May 20)

Taurus moon wants to have their senses indulged—think delicious food, a decadent cake, and luxurious décor.

Wedding Power Color: Green

Virgo (August 23–September 22)

Virgo moon will want everything to be just so, and they’ll cherish having a great photographer who can capture all the little details that they planned to perfection.

Wedding Power Color: Tan or Brown

Capricorn (December 22–January 19)

No over-the-top décor here! Capricorn moons prefer simplicity. They’re hard-working and may want to build elements that have high impact, like a wedding arch.

Wedding Power Color: Dark Gray or Navy Blue

Air Signs

Air moon signs are very social and they crave the freedom to express themselves. They love to do things their own way and have a quality of coolness about them. Someone with these moon signs may gravitate towards open, airy venues with clean lines and lots of windows. They love unique details, and these can be incorporated in the wedding day ensembles (think a colored dress or a sharp jumpsuit). These signs are the most likely to implement an element of surprise, whether it’s a delight like a taco truck appearance or a major twist like a skydiving wedding, it’s important to include something that makes a statement.

Gemini (May 21–June 21)

High-tech elements will bring extra joy to a Gemini moon’s wedding day. So will a clever wedding hashtag, a dedicated Instagram page, and lots of social media posts from guests.

Wedding Power Color: Yellow

Libra (September 23–October 23)

Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. Over-the-top romance with cascading florals, a string quartet, and flowing champagne is the type of scene that will make a Libra moon feel all the love.

Wedding Power Color: Pink

Aquarius (January 20–February 18)

Aquarius is the most freedom-loving sign in the Zodiac, so expect the unexpected is the theme for these moon signs. They’ll feel best when they cast off tradition and do things exactly the way they want.

Wedding Power Color: Blue
