Of course I don't stand in my shops all day long waiting for the
clients to drop in...Any bride can make an appointment to see me
but unless they are commissioning an haute couture one-off
extravaganza, I always insist that they spend time trying on a
selection of my dresses before our meeting so that they can
eliminate the non-starters and they, indeed can eliminate
me!!
Custom-made is the most popular selection of dresses at Number 34
- about 20 styles priced between £4,500 and £9,500
- these are all couture and can be customised to your
requirements. This means that we can adapt the design to suit you,
the only caveat being that I have to like it so you definitely will
be discouraged from turning my dress into a Christmas tree.
Skye McAlpine, the daughter of my best friend, Romilly, fell in
love with the Custom model, "Kristen" but wanted her shoulders
covered for the church. I designed a variation especially for her
in silk peau de soie instead of the heavy Italian brocade of the
original, finishing it with the lace edged silk tulle veil and a
pair of our platform satin courts... stunning!
Naturally it wasn't long before mother and daughter were getting
kitted out at Number 27 where we have the occasion and evening
collections of dresses, suits and accessories. Skye took a mini
pale-grey chiffon bubble dress for her going away outfit and
mother, a slim, short-sleeved coat and fitted shift in pale coral
brocade for the day into evening wedding party in Venice.
As I want to see who is reading my blog, I would like to offer a
champagne consultation to the first mother and daughter who can
answer the following question, the answer to be found in an earlier
blog. Which decade did I leave St Martins School of Art: Seventies,
Eighties or Nineties? Answers please to olivia@bruceoldfield.com
I have recorded a few short films which will appear over the next
few weeks on this website and also on my Facebook Pages - they
try to answer some of the questions that I most frequently get
asked so please check them out...
We are doing a Brides magazine reader event on May 13 at
Beauchamp Place and still have a few spaces - click here for more information and
to book your ticket!
