One of the key decisions every bride needs to make is whether to go for hair up or hair down. A large part of this comes down to The Dress. Do you have a high neckline to show off? Is your look elegant or relaxed? Are you going strapless and feel naked without your hair covering your shoulders? Or is it just that you always wear it one way and would prefer your husband-to-be recognized the woman in white walking towards him up the aisle?

To help me reach this monumental decision, I headed to the Errol Douglas Salon in Knightsbridge for a bridal hair trial. After some well overdue pampering, stylist Anna Bloomer began work on my clean, cut locks.

First we talked about my style, about the dress and what sort of look I want to go for. I flipped between "definitely up" to "oh no, definitely down" as Anna calmly curled the ends. The solution we came up with was to start with half up, then bring up the bottom half into a bun to give me the option of keeping it all up, or bringing half down after the Church.

"We normally tell brides to come in for hair trials on the same day as dress fittings, that way they can go off dress shopping afterwards and have a real idea what the final look will be like," Anna tells me.

Whilst Anna is working her magic up top, the Errol Douglas manicure and makeup team begin work on my nails and face. First up is a gel manicure, and as it happens to be my hen party this weekend I go for a shocking red (don't worry, I'll go for something more demure on the Big Day).

Next, makeup artist Joel began working his brushes, bringing my cheekbones out from hiding and painting smoky eyes that work for both church and reception.

It was all so wonderful sitting being pampered that I almost failed to notice the blonde sitting just behind me: Emilia Fox, no less. Nice to do my hair trials in such good company!
