Sydney is the jumping off point to your Australian adventure, although you might find it hard to leave once you've checked into the Park Hyatt.
Fresh from a year-long, £40 million renovation, the rooms are trendier, the spa bigger, the dining even more delicious (thanks to Australian chef Andrew McKee), but those views across Sydney Harbour to the Opera House are the most million-dollar feature of all.
Out went the walls and in came floor-to-ceiling, wraparound windows, while each room or suite also comes with a big-enough-to-dine-on balcony, taking room service to a new level.
It is situated in the fashionable Rocks area so there are plenty of other restaurants and bars to tempt you (we recommend martinis at Ananas Bar and Brasserie, or cocktails at Bar 100).
If the hangover isn't too bad, scale the 1,332 steps on the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. For exploring a little closer to sea level, the hotel can organise boat trips round the harbour - a must at sunset.
WOW FACTOR: Head to the fourth floor and bag yourself an elegant white sun lounger by the rooftop pool to soak up the views as well as the sunshine.
FLIGHT TIME: 22 hours.
