Here's what to expect at a traditional French wedding ceremony.

The tradition of a white wedding dress originated in France. Flowers used in the ceremony as well as the bouquets often represented a distinctive meaning to the couple.

In small villages it is customary for the groom to escort the bride to the church. After the ceremony ends, laurel leaves are strewn in the couple's path.

During the reception a toast is made in which the couple drink from a special goblet. It is customary for friends of the couple to arrive at their residence singing while banging on pots and pans. The groom offers these guests food and drink.
