Sophie Oliver, 27, married Oliver Mawby, 30, at Dewsall Court, Hereford, and held the reception at Wain House Barn, in May 2013. She says:
We put our names down for the venue on our first visit - it was the ideal setting for the informal party theme we wanted to create, and had a real charm and elegance. It was just the place to celebrate our 10 years together with all the people we love.
Our mothers made our 'naked' cake. My mum was mortified that it was slightly wonky, but we loved the way it added to the homemade charm of the day!
My dress was perfect for our less formal wedding - I knew I'd be kicking off my shoes to dance as soon as night fell. I had a last-minute panic about my shoulders being on show, so I invested in a gorgeous beaded Ivy & Aster cover-up a few weeks before the wedding.
I didn't want matching 'maids - they are all so gorgeous in their own way that I allowed them to pick their own dresses.
We made all the tissue pompoms for the ceiling and the silk-tassel garlands for the chairbacks. Apple crates and coloured containers were used as focal points along the tables and I collected papier mâché animals, which I covered in gold glitter.
We didn't want a fussy, traditional wedding, so tried to ensure our guests were immediately put at ease. There was no dress code, long speeches or first dance.
My top tip: Prepare, plan and enjoy every moment but be ready on the day to give it all up and just go with the flow.
